Santa Cosecha: a new boost for local produce and the circular economy
The platform will give hotel purchasing teams access to a catalogue of local producers and products, provide clear information about the origin of food and streamline purchasing processes. It will also help measure the circular impact achieved through the recovery and reuse of the organic matter collected as part of CTC.
Santa Cosecha will bring the tourism industry closer to local producers, encourage hotels to include more Canary Islands produce in their food offering and create new business opportunities for producers across the islands. By shortening supply chains, the platform will also help turn the purchasing power of the tourism industry into a driver of local economic development.
The platform forms part of Circular Tourism Communities, which is celebrating its fourth anniversary with highly positive results. The project is based on the separate collection of organic waste generated by hotels, which is then transformed into high-quality compost and returned to the land for agricultural use.
Over the past four years, 40 hotels in Adeje, Arona and San Miguel have joined the initiative. To date, 3,700 tonnes of uncooked organic waste and green waste have been diverted from Tenerife’s landfill sites. This material has been transformed into 1,600 tonnes of certified compost, helping to regenerate agricultural soils and reduce reliance on resources sourced from outside the islands.
Coral Hotels has been part of the project from the outset. Coral Ocean View joined Circular Tourism Communities four years ago and has since played an active role in the correct separation and recovery of the organic matter generated at the hotel.
In July 2026, Coral Suites & Spa also joined the initiative, expanding Coral Hotels’ involvement and reinforcing our commitment to a more responsible, efficient and locally connected approach to hotel management.
The participation of both properties allows us to continue integrating circular economy practices into our daily operations, engaging our teams and helping transform waste into a valuable resource for local agriculture.
To mark CTC’s fourth anniversary, Ashotel held a technical event at the Factoría de Innovación Turística de Canarias in Adeje. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the project’s achievements and present its next areas of development, including Santa Cosecha.
During the event, Enrique Padrón, Ashotel’s Director of Innovation and Sustainability, presented the participating hotels with the AENOR Certification for Food Waste Prevention. Our colleague Rosi Morales accepted the certification on behalf of Coral Hotels.
The future launch of Santa Cosecha will further strengthen the relationship between tourism and local producers, make it easier for hotels to include Canary Islands produce in their food offering and support the transition towards a more circular model.
At Coral Hotels, we will continue to support initiatives that reduce waste, promote local sourcing and create a positive impact across the Canary Islands.
